Sue Rohner joins Plainfield Park District as new planning manager

Sue RohnerThe Plainfield Park District recently announced the hiring of Sue Rohner as planning manager.

She is graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and holds a Certified Arborist credential from the International Society of Arborists, while also working toward Landscape Architect (LA) state licensure. Sue comes to Plainfield after serving as the Senior Landscape Designer at Terra Engineering, where she provided LA production support, including 3D graphics, for a variety of projects and clients.

Sue has a wealth of LA experience in public and private practice with an emphasis on parks and recreation in urban settings. Her diverse knowledge and skills include land planning, research, landscape design, low maintenance planting techniques, technical specs and bidding, project management, grant writing, presentation graphics, plan review and construction administration.

In addition to Terra Engineering, her other LA work experience includes InSite Real Estate, Forest Preserves of Cook County, Village of Orland Park, Des Plaines Park District and the Lannert Group. She’s also developed business and engaged not-for-profits, including grant writing for DuPage Children’s Museum.

Sue’s specialisms in landscape architecture include designing for longevity, sustainability and ecology-based solutions that strike a balance for both people and wildlife to enjoy park sites. She is also passionate about creative designs or strategic planning that support birds, pollinators, weather resilient trees and green infrastructure. Sue is excited to join the Plainfield Park District because of their land preservation focus, growing community and to be a part of the expansion of recreational opportunities for the community.

Sue resides in Brookfield with her spouse, Tom, her sons, Graham and Quentin, and her rescue dog, Lucy. In her spare time, she assists Tom in designing and fixing up their 1907 American Foursquare.
