Park Code Ordinance

Each year, the Plainfield Park District suffers thousands of dollars worth of damage from vandalism, and these costs are absorbed by our tax payers. If you witness these types of acts, please notify the Plainfield Police at (815) 436-2341 or Joliet Police at (815) 726-2491, or call the Park District Recreation/Administration Center at (815) 436-8812 with any information that could lead to the apprehension of vandals.

Emerald Ash Borer Policy

The Plainfield Park District owns and manages more than 1,400 acres of public property. Within these properties, many ash trees exist which are susceptible to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Once a tree is infested with EAB, typically a rapid decline will occur within 2-3 years. The Park District, through annual monitoring of the health of these trees, is on the lookout for EAB.

The Park District does not plan to remove any existing healthy ash trees. The removal of dead trees will be on a case-by-case basis and performed primarily in the winter to reduce the risk of spreading the insect.

Insecticide treatments of larger trees may be considered. It is not the policy of the Plainfield Park District to treat each individual tree. In some instances, residents may be concerned about ash trees in a neighboring park infesting their private property. Upon written request, the Plainfield Park District will evaluate the need for any action to be taken to either prevent the spread of EAB or treat an existing tree in any park facility.

Please contact the Plainfield Park District Parks office at (815) 439-7940 for more information or to report an infestation at a park.
