British writer C. S. Lewis once said, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” 
If that’s true then Plainfield resident Amy Kish has integrity to spare.
Almost 2 weeks before Earth Week, Kish was spotted on the edge of Mather Woods picking up trash, a bucket in one hand, a pair of long-handled pincers in the other grabbing up old bottles, stray plastic bags, and all the other cast offs that get stuck in the prairie stubble at the park site. She said she likes to go out after garbage collection day to pick up all the recycling and other trash that doesn’t make it into the trucks.
Kish started picking up trash on her walks with her dogs a couple of months ago, inspired by the “de-trash” movement she found online.
She also started following its unifying hashtag: #trashtag. Followers post a picture of an area that they “de-trash” and then post it to social media using the #trashtag.
Since she started de-trashing her own neighborhood, she said she’s widened her efforts, which included the day she was “caught” doing the right thing at Mather Woods.
