As of January 21, Region 7, which includes Will County, has been moved to Tier 1 mitigation protocols under the Restore Illinois plan.
With the new rules regarding indoor gatherings, the Park District will be moving ahead with a modified winter basketball program starting in February.
The following is a timeline for the rollout of the program and other details as we prepare to welcome families back to PARC for basketball.
Week of January 25th – Open for any last-minute enrollments. Coaches meeting and team formation process. All participants will be notified of their coach by 5p on Friday, January 29th.
Week of February 1st – Practices start. All practices will be held at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center (PARC), 24550 W. Renwick Rd.
Sunday March 21st – Program concludes
Face Coverings – All patrons inside of PARC are required to wear a CDC-approved face covering during their entire visit. This includes participants during practice and competition.
Spectators – There will be a limit to the amount of people who will be allowed inside PARC and the gym area. No parents, guardians, other spectators will be allowed inside PARC for practice and it is possible there will be a limited number or even no spectators allowed inside for the Championship Weekends.
Interaction/Game Play (Championship Events) – Youth athletics will still not be allowed to compete in traditional game play under the new Tier 1 rules. Practice time will be used to teach and implement skill development in preparation for the championship events.
To include some level of competition throughout the program, the Park District will be hosting “Championship Weekends” where players will compete at a designated time, both as individuals and as their team in various skilled events amongst their grade level peers with awards being given to individuals and teams at the conclusion of each event for both athletic and non-athletic activity.
Each age group would have a single time slot on one of the days each weekend to compete. More information on this will be sent to families as soon as possible.
Championship Weekend Dates:
- Saturday February 20th and Sunday February 21st
- Saturday March 6th and Sunday March 7th
- Saturday March 20th and Sunday March 21st
