Plainfield Park District Cardboard Boat Regatta Sets Sail Aug. 9

On August 9, the Plainfield Park District Cardboard Boat Regatta returns to the Ottawa Street Pool from 6:30 to 8p.

Park District residents are invited to build a boat out of cardboard and duct tape, then test its buoyancy by piloting it on the waters of the Ottawa Street Pool.

Awards categories include fastest boat, most team spirit, and best design.

Admission is free for spectators.

  • Boats should be capable of holding 1-2 people
  • Boats will be launched and paddled across the Ottawa St. swimming pool
  • The Park District will provide cardboard and 2 rolls of duct tape per team
  • For ages 10 & up w/responsible adult
  • Cost: R/NR $5 per team
