Per the direction of Illinois Governor Pritzker’s recent order to reduce the risk of the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) through social distancing and the new CDC recommendation of limiting crowds to under 50 people, the Plainfield Park District will be closing all of its facilities to the public starting Monday, March 16, 2020 at 6 p.m. 
Because of the rapidly changing nature of the developments surrounding COVID-19, Park District staff will re-assess the evolving situation on a weekly basis to determine when facilities can safely re-open to residents and programming can resume.
Facilities closing include:
- The Prairie Activity & Recreation Center (PARC), and Prairie Fit fitness center
- Streams Dance Studio
- Plainfield Township Community Center
- Ottawa Street Recreation & Administration Center
Due to the closures, any rentals scheduled at Plainfield Park District facilities will be cancelled and refunded. Activities and programs scheduled at facilities are also cancelled and will be refunded on a prorated basis.
Residents do not have to request a refund for any cancelled events, programs, or rentals.
Normantown Trails Equestrian Center (NTEC) will also close to the public and all classes and private riding lessons are also cancelled. The facility will remain open only to those boarding their horses at NTEC.
Upcoming events planned in March are also cancelled including:
- March 24 census meeting scheduled for Plainfield Township Community Center
- March 27 flashlight egg hunt at Gregory B. Bott Park
- March 28 Egg-citing events including Bunny-licious Breakfast, and egg hunts at Bott Park
The District will make a determination on cancelling events planned for April in the coming weeks.
Because of the potential for the virus that causes COVID-19 to live on surfaces, we are currently discouraging the use of Plainfield Park District playground equipment.
Trails, parks, and other open space amenities can still be enjoyed providing that residents don’t congregate in large groups and maintain proper social distance.
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), currently recommends maintaining a distance of about 10 feet.
The Plainfield Park District Board of Commissioners fully supports this decision for the health and well-being of our program participants, the community at large, and our dedicated staff.
