The Plainfield Park District is hosting an Open House to present the Springbank Bridge Restoration Project and gather resident feedback 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., September 21 at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center, 24550 W. Renwick Road in Plainfield.
The Plainfield Park District is teaming with Plainfield Township in seeking an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant to restore the historic Old Renwick Road bridge. The bridge is currently not in use, and is in need of restoration if it is to serve as a multi-use trail crossing over the DuPage River.
The Plainfield Park District is in the process of developing a trail on the east side of the river in this location and there is a trail also planned for the west side of the river in this location. If the District is successful in securing this grant, then the bridge will be restored with trail connections on each side, enhancing recreational opportunities and restoring a historic amenity for the region.
A concept plan will be presented at the open house. Contact Director of Planning Bob Collins at collins@plfdparks.org for more information.
