The Plainfield Park District is embracing the “new normal” this spring with its first series of virtual programs, classes, and special events.
Residents registering for summer programs starting in May can sign up for the Park District’s E-Recreation offerings which are designed for residents to participate in from their homes.
Virtual E-Recreation programs include fitness classes, athletics training, instructional classes in cooking and art, and even at-home birthday party packages.
Special events planned include trivia nights and a free virtual bingo night.
The new slate of programming also includes free dance classes.
In keeping with the changing landscape of recreation due to the pandemic, the District is also offering its first- ever virtual 5K race. Participants in “The New Normal Virtual 5K Race” will have 1 week starting on June 14 to walk, run, or jog 3.1 miles either on a treadmill, at a local park, or on their regular route through their neighborhood.
Park District Executive Director Carlo Capalbo said recreation staff have done a great job creating innovative twists on traditional programming for residents to do at home which were necessitated by the State of Illinois’ stay at home order which runs through May 29.
“The Park District’s mission has always been to provide quality recreation opportunities for our residents, and the Coronavirus pandemic hasn’t changed that,” he said.
A complete list of E-Recreation programs being offered can be found on the Plainfield Park District website, plfdparks.org, under “E-Recreation.”
